Stainless steel is a highly versatile metal that is used in equipment and products that span nearly every industry. With particularly strong resistance to corrosion and added strength from other metals within the alloy, stainless steel is a very popular metal to recycle. At Metalico Buffalo, we work with a number of clients who work with large volumes of stainless steel for construction and fabrication work, regularly improving their bottom-line by scrapping their extra stainless steel.
Stainless steel is used to make a number of consumer products and commercial equipment. From structural elements to cutlery, stainless steel reinforces products to provide durability against heavy loads and corrosion. Stainless steel can consist of different types of metal depending on the alloy so there are also a number of different tests you can use to determine whether metal you find is in fact stainless steel.
First, you will want to see if the metal you have is magnetic. Stainless steel that has nickel in it may sometimes be magnetic, however, aluminum is never magnetic. Next, you can also determine whether you have stainless steel or plain steel by grinding a bit of the metal and looking for sparks. If it is non-magnetic metal and releases sparks when ground, then it is most likely stainless steel, if it's non-magnetic and releases sparks, then it's regular steel.
If you have access to extra stainless steel scrap, you can bring your metal to Metalico Buffalo. We can also help with transportation of heavier loads with our scrap container services if you need it. Contact us today for the latest stainless steel scrap metal prices!
